URAC Accepting Pre-Applications for
Health Web Site Accreditation

March 12, 2001 -- URAC announced today that it is ready to accept pre-applications for Health Web Site Accreditation.  This new accreditation program is intended health web sites to demonstrate their commitment to quality standards to consumers and other stakeholders.

All pre-applications received by April 1 will be taken as part of the “first wave” of accreditations.  After that, all applications will be processed in the order they are received.

In addition, URAC will invite some pre-applicants to serve as test sites for evaluating the new standards.  URAC’s goal will be to select test sites that represent a diversity of web site functions and approaches.  URAC will share detailed information about this process with those sites invited to serve as a test site.

URAC expects to release the final version of the Health Web Site Accreditation Standards in late July, after the completion of the public comment period. [See article: URAC Releases Draft Health Web Site Standards for Public Comment]

Organizations interested in submitting a pre-application for Health Web Site Accreditation should go to: http://www.urac.org/websiteaccreditation.htm to see more detail about the terms and conditions of the accreditation process, and to complete the pre-application form.
