The new, authoritative 500-page Guide to Medical Privacy and HIPAA has been developed specifically to help healthcare facilities comply with the complex new EDI standardization, privacy and security requirements under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Over six months in development, and published in February, 2002, the Guide analyzes these unprecedented new federal provisions on privacy, electronic transaction and security standards and explains the applicability of key elements, such as transactions and code sets administrative simplification, "minimum use" disclosure, "business associate" relationships, "individually identifiable" information, "consents and authorizations," required administrative, physical and technical security measures, and much more.

The Guide also spells out real-world strategies for achieving compliance, from assembling a HIPAA team… to raising HIPAA awareness…to conducting enterprise-wide HIPAA impact and risk analyses…to developing a remediation plan and budget…to developing policies and procedures…to achieving cultural and behavioral changes within your organization. Checklists, outlines, model presentations, and other resource documents are provided in the Guide to facilitate your compliance process.

Bonus! Updates and monthly news bulletins to the Guide will provide news and analysis of new HIPAA regulations, emerging HIPAA issues and enforcement actions, compliance deadlines, along with proven strategies and educational interviews with industry experts.
